5 Bedroom House
Location: Sloane Square, Westminster. London, UK
This is a Grade II listed residential property part of a terrace, located within the London Borough of Westminster. The property is situated in the Belgravia Conservation Area. The five storey house was converted into 3 Residential flats in the 90s.
The proposal was to convert it back as it was originally, a family home where common and social areas sits at ground and first levels, whilst second and third floors are dedicated to the family private areas and bedrooms, the lower ground level is designated for a guest bedroom and a recreational space with access to the rear patio.
The challenge was to make the appearance of the building as suitable as possible so it can contribute to the character of this part of the Belgravia Conservation Area. As such and wherever possible, the proportions, size style and alignments of all proposed windows are to match the predominant style of the original windows of the house and those of the surrounding properties.
Also, the two storeys side return extension has been designed in such a way that expresses itself as a framed glazed element where the glass is set back by 300 mm from the flanking rear facade of the adjacent properties.
The entire property went through a series of re-configurations and renovations so it could provide living spaces that meets the requirements of modern living whilst being of a sensitive design in keeping with the character of the area.
